Colorado State Mechanical Engineering [Mechanical engineering]

Colorado State Mechanical Engineering

Undergraduate Program

The mechanical engineering (ME) program at CSU offers a curriculum that combines classroom learning with engineering practice. The ME program goal for students is to give our graduates the engineering skills to obtain leading positions in advanced technology fields.

In the undergraduate program, a broad spectrum of classes is available for learning about the fundamentals of the mechanical engineering profession. Students not only learn about mechanical engineering analysis and design, they also gain valuable hands-on experience through class projects and application-oriented research. All senior ME students can participate in designing and building a capstone project that is part of a national, senior design competition. Students also have the opportunity for research-based projects. Each project is based on a corporate model that provides students significant opportunities for leadership development and experiential learning.

Mechanical engineering at Colorado State University is dedicated to graduating ethical mechanical engineers who:

  1. are focused on society’s grand engineering challenges;
  2. are modern and accomplished thinkers and doers, vested in life-long learning;
  3. are local, regional and global collaborators and communicators; and
  4. are innovative and creative engineering designers and problem solvers.

Graduates of the CSU Mechanical Engineering program will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. Identify, formulate, and solve mechanical engineering problems
  3. Design and conduct engineering experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data
  4. Design a system, component or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints
  5. Communicate effectively
  6. Function on multi-disciplinary teams
  7. Use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice

They shall also have:

  1. The broad education for understanding of the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  2. Knowledge of contemporary issues
  3. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility of engineers
  4. Recognition of the need for life-long learning
